Oak
View Hospital
Oak View is a medium secure hospital that provides a
safe environment for the assessment, treatment and care
of up to 17 young people, aged 12 to 18 (male or female),
who have been detained under the 1983 Mental Health
Act.
The facility is in a pleasant semi-rural location, less
than 3 1⁄2 miles from the M25 and within an hour
of central London by train.
Focus on the Individual
Each
young person at Oak View is assigned to a care team,
with a named Key Worker. In collaboration with the young
person, their care team will draw up an individual plan
for them. Being part of the process helps the young
person to understand and be actively involved in their
health care on an ongoing basis.
Family Values
Oak View recognises the importance of the family unit
and is committed to working closely with family members
and carers for the long-term benefit of the young people
in its care. Treatment programmes include whole family
meetings and parent counselling.
More than Doctors and Nurses
Oak View staff includes qualified professionals from
a variety of specialist disciplines, including:
• Child & Adolescent Psychiatry
• Registered Nurses, qualified in Mental Health,
General Nursing, and Learning Disability
• Staff Grade Doctor
• Psychology
• Teaching
• Occupational Therapy
• Art Therapy
• Activity Coordination
• Independent Advocacy
• Care Programme Approach
From the outset, all young people will be involved in
the monthly enhanced Care Programme Approach (CPA) process,
which aims to keep everyone aware of the treatment plan.
Oak View offers monthly reports and CPA Review meetings
to all appropriate parties. Professionals’ meetings
are provided as requested by referrers or funding managers.
Prior to discharge, Oak View holds planning meetings
with family and community care professionals to enhance
the young person’s transition.
